  This year's edition of WSF Summer Solstice did not disappoint.  At first, it looked like we might be rained out but the squash gods were on our side as the rain seem to fall all around us.  80 golfers descended on Rochester determined to bring it to its knees.  However, only one foursome would prove to be worthy of that (no Al, Mike and Barry, it wasn't your group).  The winning foursome and a repeat winner from last year was Michael Sovran, Ryan Klokman, Rich Kennedy and Chalen Fecteau .  They must be getting tired of going to Red Wings games courtesy of Riverview Steel :)

     After golf we were treated to some great Parkside Grille food while we auctioned off a record number of items.  Thanks to the generous support of those listed below as we had many auction items. There was something for everyone.
     During the awards ceremony we had the appearance of a special guest.  He didn't have a lot to say, he just kept an eye on things.  However, he let loose when the music started, thanks to DJ Mike Melee.  Dancing and partying continued late into the evening.  Pictures can be found here.
      Thank you to the generous support of the people below.  This event continues to grow and the juniors thank you for their support.  This money goes to support our junior program in a variety of ways such as subsidized clinics for those that need assistance, subsidized lessons, coaches clinics, tournaments, travel, yearly bursary for graduating players, attire.

Summer Solstice/ Golf Tournament

      Save the Date!  This year will be our 3rd annual golf tournament and we have decided to change the format.  We are sending this out much earlier than usual because we have much bigger plans for the tournament.  The venue has moved to Rochester Place and we have changed the date to take advantage of the nicer weather.  The new date is Saturday, July 16.  We have also combined the golf with a summer party for our non-golfers.
     Rochester is a great venue for a summer party and it will give our non-golfing members an opportunity to join the golfers for dinner and party after their round.  We will have a DJ, prize table and an assortment of games.      
     We appreciate those who sponsored last year and again this year we are looking for sponsors.  We have formalized our sponsorship program and a letter will be going out shortly to all potential sponsors.  Sponsorship this year will be $250 and that will get you signage on a hole, acknowledgement on the junior squash bulletin board and on our social media.  Also, we are accepting donations for items to auction off.
      Payment can be made by cash or cheque (payable to WSF Junior Fund).  Sorry no house charge.  Sign up is open and can be done at the front desk.

Golf Tournament

       Thank you to the 48 people that participated in our 2nd annual WSF Golf Tournament.  The weather cooperated and I believe a good time was had by all.  Last year's winners of Valente, Leavitt, Wilbur, Guthrie (Dave) just couldn't put it together this year.  Mike Wilbur was forced to carry the team and a big load he had to carry.  We had many rookie teams participate this year, most notably 8 of our juniors who should probably stick to squash.  And it was a new entrant into that tournament that ended up winning it.  Somehow, Jody Brown, Aaron Gillis, Matt McEachran and Graeme Williams(?????) turned in a -6.  What is more amazing about this score is that they basically did it as a threesome.  I thought they were in trouble when Graeme texted me an hour before tee-off asking if he could rent clubs at the course. :)  Well done guys, enjoy your Red Wings tickets.

     The money raised from this event go into fund that is used throughout the year to assist and promote the game of squash and those playing it at the junior level.  This fund is used to subsidize our junior's lessons, travel, clinics, coaching certifications, and referring certifications.  It is also used to fund new, economically-challenged players to the game as well as assist entry into our tournament from players who would otherwise be unable to participate.

Save the Date- Golf

      Because so many people are inquiring, the date for the Second Annual WSF-Junior Golf outing has been set.  Plus, I heard that a certain team is planning practice sessions all summer to retain their lucky year one title.
      I hate to disappoint all of you that were looking forward to golfing again in arctic temperatures but the date has been moved up significantly.  This year's outing will take place on Sunday, September 20th.   And I have been able to secure a shotgun start.  Mark it on your calendars.  Details to follow.

      32 golfers bundled up and headed out for a round of golf in some cool and windy conditions, which surely counted for some of the high scores.  The money raised today will be put towards ensuring quality level junior tournaments in the future, supporting those in the program who may need financial assistance, and recruitment of new players from lower income backgrounds.

Junior Golf Tournament Fundraiser

   WSF is having a golf tournament on Sunday, Oct 5 to raise money for the Junior Gold and Silver events we are hosting this season.  Landing both of these tournaments is a big deal for Windsor.  Our plan is to put on a great event that Squash Ontario will want us to host again in the future.   The tournament will be typical best ball format with prizes and dinner.  If you have any questions or are interested in signing up please contact Graeme or Craig.
