Gary Waite #1
This Sunday was the beginning of the Gary Waite junior squash tour. The Gary Waite tour has been around for years and is designed for beginning players looking to get into tournaments. Some of our juniors made the trip down the 401 to Chatham to play in this event. While, for many of them this was their first tournament, it didn't stop them from playing amazing squash. In the under 10 division, none other than Maisie Williams took the title. Imagine that. Jacob Bhatti brought home the 11-13 title with a great win. The 14+ division was won by Gabe VanMorsel (home court advantage :)) with a convincing win over Carter Furmanek. Congratulation to Subhan Khan for winning the 14+ consolation.
Thanks to Dan VanMorsel for hosting this event and Gary and Holly Delavigne for putting it on. Next event is Nov 15 in Sarnia.

Juniors in Elora
This Sunday, 5 of Windsor's dedicated juniors headed to the Elora Racquet Club for the third stop on the Gary Waite Tour. The Gary Waite Tour is a tour that players earn points for each event they participate in. The more events you participate in, the more points you can earn. The system promotes participation. Our juniors represented Windsor well as all participants went deep into their respective draws.
What looked like was going to be round 3 of a DallaBona/Dimitrov final failed to materialize as Phil was upset by a local player. That player also went on to defeat Luca in a very entertaining final. But Windsor was not about to leave empty-handed as it was Ryan Guthrie day to dominate. Ryan was on fire all day and didn't lose a single game all tournament. Congratulations Ryan!

Gary Waite Tour- Windsor Stop
Award Winners |
The weekend's event was unique since we had many players involved in the Silver event on Saturday, including many from out of town that opted to stay for both events. Despite a full day of squash on Saturday, the juniors showed no signs of fatigue, something that many adults envied.
Khan/Nagy Final |
The 11-13 final featured a Groundhog Day match (as in it seems to happen all the time) between Luca Dalla Bona and Phil Dimitrov. These two seem to battle it out in every tournament and always bring out the best in each other. However, today Luca could not keep up with Phil's deft shot-making and surrendered the match to Phil.
The 10 and Under division played a round robin and Ananya Maheshwari came out on top. Her drop shot and her retrieving ability was just too much for the others.
Many comments were made about the quality of play and sportsmanship that was evident all weekend. All photos from all weekend events can be found here. Follow the juniors on twitter (@wsfjuniorsquash) or on Facebook (wsfjuniorsquash).

Gary Waite Junior Squash Tour - Windsor Tour Stop
.jpg)
On Sunday December 13/09, thirty-four of the best junior squash players in southwestern Ontario were in action at WSF as the Gary Waite Junior Squash Tour made its Windsor stop. The Gary Waite Junior Squash Tour is a series of five one-day tournaments hosted by squash clubs in southwestern Ontario. Named in honour of Sarnia's Gary Waite, a former world squash champion, the inaugural tour is proving to be a success in developing the next generation of squash players in this region.
In the 13-and-under division, Ross Ferguson of London defeated Laura Drope of Sarnia to claim the title. Ferguson is a repeated champion as he won the tour's Sarnia event on November 22/09. Colin Curran of Windsor emerged victorious over Sarnia's Thomas Valade in a tight match to take 3rd Place. In the Bronze final, Olivia Waite of Toronto won a close match over Amin Khan of Windsor. Khan had earlier played a hard-fought match with A.J. Greuning of Windsor to make the consolation final.
The 14-and-over division Winner Jakes Stables of London defeated David Mill of Windsor in the finals. Daniel Merlano of Sarnia defeated Nicola Crich of London to take third place. The Bronze final was won by Allison Sparham of Sarnia.
Other WSF Juniors in the field included Myles Mayer, Mitchell Deehan and Berto Mill.
